  • Operate as an LLC, corporation, or partnership.
  • Want to open a business bank account or apply for loans.
  • Need to file federal and state taxes.

Tips for Using Your EIN

One EIN Per Day Rule: If you have multiple businesses, you can only apply for one EIN per day.

Double-Check Your Information: Ensure the business name and responsible party match your other registrations. This will help to avoid having to make corrections and wait for corrections to be made.

Keep Your EIN Safe: Treat your EIN like sensitive information. You’ll use it for taxes, banking, and more. It is important to write this down or save it somewhere you won’t forget.

How to Use Your EIN After Getting It

Open a Business Bank Account: Most banks require an EIN to set up an account. You may do so for a business checking or saving account in addition to business credit cards.

File Federal and State Taxes: You’ll need your EIN to file returns and pay taxes.

Apply for Business Licenses or Permits: Some licenses or permits may require an EIN.
